Apple Wants Your Ears to be Safe

Have you ever heard this……that you possess the music system and your neighbors having its remote control? Similar is the idea of Apple appears to me to have an auto controlling volume control within the iPod.

According to one of the reports it was suggested that most of the iPod users plug in their iPods at loud volume. On which experts have stated that prolonged exposure to loud music could ultimately lead to hearing loss. Acting on this Apple has decided to take a stand on the situation by developing a system wherein your iPod would act as a health partner, it would automatically reduce the volume level of your iPod to a safer level after certain period of hearing the music at loud level.

I believe it is a step which could reduce the sales of iPod because I think it will be really annoying as in to reduce the music level while one is listening to a song. I think what Apple could do instead of this is that they may issue an warning or cautious note where in they can inform the iPod user to hear the music at a stipulated volume. Or they can provide in with 2 modes one for auto health and other without it.

Well these are all if and buts, it may or may not happen so lets wait and watch out for this new development @ Apple iPod. Lets not rule out Apple as it is known to bring in revolution in the field of technology may be it might turn out to be the best possible change in technology so lets gear up to see the latest happening in iPod..............

Google Text Ad Trojan Detected

An Romanian antivirus company BitDefender has detected an virus in Google's Ad Network. The virus Trojan.Qhost.WU replaces the google's textual ads with ads from a different provider.

The Virus has potentially effected the Adsense users and Google. The users are effected as it takes away the potential revenue which a particular Blooger generates through the Google's ad network and also the ads may contain malicious code which may potentially harm the users computer.

On its Web site, BitDefender describes the Trojan, as spreading at a "low" level and causing medium damage. Although Google has an auto detect system which detects such malicious code but still it failed to detect this virus at the first place of occurrence which now leaves Google with some loop holes to be filled.....................

Earn With PDF Ads......................

Following the trend setup by Google in Web documents , Yahoo and Adobe are bringing pay-per-click ads to Adobe's Portable Document Format. This will enable PDF publishers to serve ads inside PDFs distributed on Web sites and over e-mail that are contextually relevant to the content. This according to me is the best way to acknowledge the free way publishers who selflessly contribute their White papers and documents of importance to Web.

From the Demo available on the adobe website it seems the Ads will we appearing on the right and left side of the document. The Ads will be displayed dynamically on the basics of content of the PDF, it appears to me they would be using the usual paper raking algorithm that is to count the number of times a particular word appears on the page and for similar phases within the same domain.

I tried to use the serivce and found that it is very easy to use. I clicked the Register PDF button, and uploaded a PDF. The file status initially was set to Pending, indicating PDF was being processed for relevant Ads. But within a couple of minutes, the file status change to Registered and I received an e-mail with the PDF modified to accept ads.

As was the case with Google Adsense, I think this move would definitely encourage more people sharing their knowledge, and hence ultimately serve in bringing valuable knowledge to recognition............

Google Search Tips

Searching is an extensive activity which we perform on net generally for every questions that pops to our mind. When you talk about searching the first thing that will cross through our minds is Google.Google is an extensive search engine which offers lot more features than any available search engine this article written to make aware novice searchers how they can exploit the power of Google search and get the directed result .

Tips............................................................
  1. Explicit Phrase:
When you are looking for a particular words/string on net then you may not get the desired result like if u type finance home this the result you get :-
As you can see that i didn't get the intended result, now type the same string but this time within double quotations this will work perfectly. What happens is when ever you type more than one word which are from different domain it searches for both of them considering them as 2 different results and hence it displays the result with finance or home.
  2. Exclude Words:
Some time it may happen that we are looking for something which lies in more than one domain but we want to exclude result from a particular domain like:-animals which will look like this............. . Now suppose you do not info about insects so what you will do type:-animals-insects. .

3.
Similar Words and Synonyms:

Let’s say you are want to include a word in your search, but want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the "~" in front of the word.

These 3 particular searching tricks i frequently use, other than these there are some other tricks also.If you wish to read more about tricks and tips to Google search then visit .

Non-Contact Thermometer

Kidz-Med ThermofocusA company called Kidz-Med, Inc. has launched a new thermometer called, "Thermofocus", claiming it as the first thermometer to take accurate body temperature readings without touching the body.

It uses the infrared technology to measure body temperature by just pointing the thermometer towards forehead. As forehead is only body part which has considerable amount of blood supply and with no hair cover which enables this device to get the exact temp. It is claimed to take less than 1 sec to measure body temp.

Well this device looks good to me although i cant comment upon how much reliable its results would be but it looks an easy to use than the standard thermometer available.

USB Skype Mouse

skype%20mouse.jpg

In today's world to be in the hunt for success each individual needs to be competent in multiple fields, this evolving scenario has not even left electronic gizmos far behind in the race of multiple featureal possessions.

Similar is the USB Skype Mouse which doubles as a USB Mouse and a USB Skype Phone connected to your computer, claims to integrate with Skype and several other VoIP services, and even supports functions like hands-free dialing, speakerphone, and multiple ring tones. The top of the mouse opens up to reveal a number pad and 64 dot matrix LCD screen that you can use to make and receive calls. It has 800dpi optical sensor.

This technology is still in its early stages with still some modifications needed to be done such as:-
  • Need to make device synchronize in its dual role as it takes time while switching its role.
  • It won't ring when it is closed or flap is slided.
Despite of it this device brings in new creative dimension.............................

Increase Net Speed

This is a method which frees the bandwidth reserved by microsoft for various updates, you can reduce the bandwidth allocated following these steps.

  • Click Start then Run and type "gpedit.msc" without quotes. This opens the group policy editor.
  • Then go to:Local Computer Policy>then Computer Configuration>then Administrative Templates then Network then QOS Packet Scheduler and then to Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
  • Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab i.e."By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."

Struts- MVC Architecture Contd...............

Let us try to understand Struts framework in some what more detailed manner......

Step Wise Flow of Control Of Struts

1.First we see a Jsp/HTML page on our Web Browser,if it is this page is retrieved from Web.xml
File.
2.Their is a Web.xml file which is Deployment Descriptor.

Roles Of Deployment Descriptor
  • Locates the First JSP page which would pop up in the Web based Project.
  • It is responsible for mapping of JSP page to its equivalent servlet.
  • Information to Library file is also contained in this file.
  • Formating of address which is to be displayed as URL.It represent all those pages with .do extension which have more than one forward page, where a decision has to be taken which page needs to be displayed on the basis of the user input.
3.Now after Web.xml file which next happens to be the heart of a Strut application is
Struts-Config.xml.

Role Of Struts-Config.xml
  • Action Mapping-:Now Action Mapping means to map each JSP page to its corresponding Servlet, Bean class,Action class and Business Logic Class .
  • Local Forwards-: This tab contains Information about the all the possible JSP pages to which a given JSP page can redirect to on the basis of user input.
  • Local Exceptions-:This defines the error handling mechanism.
4.Before the data from form is stored in Bean class of the corresponding page Validator Framework comes into picture. This validator framework is responsible for server side validation of inputs. To introduce constraints on any field of form you will need to make changes in 2 files one is Valitator.xml and Validator-rules.xml.

Validator.xml describes the logic which needs to be check for each and every field of JSP form whereas Validator-rules.xml describes the location of the logic and gives name to each logic which is then used in Validator.xml. After data has been checked for compliance to standard rules values are stored in bean which are then further used as described in previous post of mine.

Struts- MVC Architecture Contd...............

This figure depicts an M-V-C Architecture.
M-Model
V-View
C-Controller

Model- That part of application which deals with database creation, insertion and retrieval of data is know as Model. Programming of database can be done through JDBC, hibernate and other database languages.

View - These are the dynamic or static web pages which can be created using JSP , JSF etc. These are similar to HTML tags in many ways only additional thing which they enable is the support for JAVA which makes them far more powerful than HTML tags.

Controller-This is that part of your application which process each request sent by web browser and decides upon which next page should be displayed.

Form Bean- These are those classes which store values of parameters filled in a given form. Each JSP page has a form bean where the value of all parameters or fields is set or reset.

Now i will try to explain the flow of control from the above picture step by step

  1. Web browser sends a request to server.
  2. Servelet take this request and first stores all the parameter(Fields) value which where filled in the form to the corresponding Form bean of the page.
  3. Then Servlet goes to Action class which is the controller of your application. This class helps determining the next JSP page on the basics of Field or parameter values which it retrieve from bean.
  4. Action class interacts with Business Logic for retrieving desired data from database.
  5. Then data is sent to the next JSP page selected by the Action Class.
  6. JSP is then sent to Web Browser.

Struts- MVC Architecture

Its my first time on this blog that i am going to try to take up some technology. These days i am busy with final year seminar which is Struts an MVC architecture, so now i have decided to take up this topic in my blog.

Struts

Apache Struts is an open-source framework that is used for developing Java web application.Originally developed by the programmer and author Craig R. McClanahan this was later taken over by the Apache Software Foundation in 2002. Struts have provided an excellent framework for developing application easily by organizing JSP and Servlet basically based on HTML formats and Java code.

Why do we need Struts?

Java technologies give developers a serious boost when creating and maintaining applications to meet the demands of today's public Web sites and enterprise intranets. Struts combines Java Servlets, Java ServerPages, custom tags, and message resources into a unified framework.

How does Struts work?

Struts combines Java Servlets, Java ServerPages.

  • Java Servlets are designed to handle requests made by Web browsers.
  • Java ServerPages are designed to create dynamic Web pages.
Struts uses a special Servlet to route requests from Web browsers to the appropriate ServerPage.

Why is it called Struts?

It's a reference to struts in the architectural sense, a reminder of the nearly invisible pieces that hold up buildings, houses, and bridges.

Apple announces SDK for iPhone

It finally happened. Steve Jobs announced an iPhone SDK. The plan is to release it in February, and the suggestion is that apps will need to be digitally signed . Here's hoping that developing for the iPhone/Touch will be cheap (or free) enough to allow the folks who have been writing apps to continue doing so. Says Jobs: 'It will take until February to release an SDK because we're trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once--provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc. This is no easy task.'

My prediction is that it'll be a lot like some Java handhelds. There will be a key repository. It will come with the public key of Apple and, for iPhones, for the carrier from which you currently get service. Developers will be issued a key pair, one to go onto the device they use for development, and one to sign the apps they're developing, but installing the pubic keys onto arbitrary devices will be non-trivial.

My prediction based on that is, anyone who cares about running a wide variety of apps will register as a developer and get a key pair, and freeware apps will have to be open source, because in order to get them signed correctly, people will have to compile them from source so that they're properly signed for their own devices.

With the introduction of the SDK, I think we're going to see a batch of really nice 3rd party apps. The current ones are extremely good for what resources are available, but I think everyone would agree there is room for much improvement.

Most past attempts as application/driver signing have failed because it hasn't been about signing but rather about making $$$. And signing has cost book u bucks for being signed. This is the aspect of signing that's bad. It will be fine for app signing as long as it's free to do so or a negligible (ie: $5-$10) processing fee. But if it's $500 or $1,500 to have your app signed. Then it will fail...

The situation will be the same as with the iTunes SDK: to get the SDK you'll have to sign an agreement that gives Apple veto power over your application. Every time people flamed me.Anything they don't like, gone. They say its to protect users from spyware and other forms of malware but it'll be used to eliminate anything they don't like. Instead you'll get crippled functionality, like music sharing with ridiculous limits on the number of people/playbacks per day.

Rest lets wait and watch its impact on technology front.................................................................

Sony Ericsson P1i

Sony Ericsson announced the latest in its smartphone line up - the Sony Ericsson P1i. The P1i is a touchscreen smartphone with a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900), and WiFi connectivity.

Beneath the 2.6 inch screen is a QWERTY keyboard . Rather than a key per letter as is the norm with thumb keyboards, the P1i innovates the design with each key serves two letters, with the letter entered dictated by the side of the key you press. This allows the overall size of the keyboard to be slimmed down, while maintaining good sized keys and thus giving a more pocketable, narrower phone.

Smaller size

The familiar Sony Ericsson hand writing recognition input option is present for those who do not want to use the keyboard. Both keyboard and pen input support the excellent predictive input software which can speed up input by about 20%.

The main consequence of the smaller form factor is a significant reduction in the overall size of the P1i at 106 x 55 x 17 mm and 124g, a lot features have been packed into a small space. Most of the size reduction has been achieved by making the phone much slimmer.

The P1i, P990 and W950i compared. The reduced size of the P1i compared to the P990 is clearly evident here.

Upgraded Ram

The most welcome upgrade for the P1i is the addition of an extra 64 MB of RAM. The earlier UIQ 3 devices each had 64 MB of RAM, the P1i has 128 MB. The immediate consequence of this is to ease multi-tasking - fewer applications will shut down in the background due to low memory (RAM). Larger memory makes up to 15 applications running at the same time on the P1i possible and switching between applications will be faster. Perhaps even more welcome will be an end to the 'out of memory' errors that occurred when running RAM hungry applications such as the Opera browser. The extra RAM also, seems to have speeded up general phone operation, moving through menus and application functions is faster, with many functions being instantaneous.

Auto Contact Addition

The P1i's 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera produces excellent results, comparable to any other smartphone on the market today. The camera is good enough to replace basic digital cameras, even the performance in low light conditions is fairly reasonable thanks to the dual LED flash. As with other LED-based flashes, results do start to deteriorate when the subject is more than 3 or 4 metres away, but the P1i produces better results than many camera phones in this area. Video capabilities are also good and should be sufficient for most basic tasks and 'life recording'. The camera is used in one of the most innovative applications, the business card scanner .

The P1i has a dedicated camera capture button on its right hand side.

Perpendicular Storage Technology

Perpendicular recording is a recently implemented technology for data recording, which has come to counter the ever increasing need for more storage space.Current hard disk technology with longitudinal recording has an estimated limit of 100 to 200 gigabit per square inch due to superparamagnetic effect. With longitudinal recording reaching its limit of maximum capacity, perpendicular recording would enable us to store 10 times more data.

Above image demonstrates both the recording techniques, in longitudinal we store the bits of data in west-east direction or horizontally but this impose the limitation of minimum gap between two consecutive bits which we need to maintain in order for data to be in a readable format this is known as superparamagnetic effect.

Perpendicular arrangement or vertical arrangement of bits allows additional room on a disk to pack more data thus enabling high recording densities although superparamagnetic effect still persists.

Hitachi is one of the leading companies which is using this perpendicular recording technique. It expects improvement in read/write power consumption and the fastest power-on-to-ready time for immediacy of data delivery by 20-percent, the new drive to offer greater capacity with the lowest power consumption of any 1.8-inch hard drive, due in large part to a reduction of the disk spin-speed to 3600 RPM from 4200 RPM.

Now the only answer to this ever increasing need of space which is felt globally is we have to find a solution to superparamagnetic effect.

Future Looks Of MyComputer

Browser is heart of desktop or web application, it in a way helps organize stuff for us.When ever i hear the word "Tabbed", first thing which comes to my mind is "Mozilla".

Tabbed view in a way helps in organizing windows and it gives better look and feel to window manager. Tabbing nothing but a thread opened in same window.Tabs now are treated as new evolution of web browser. Soon after Mozilla many browsers have modified themselves with new avtar bringing in tabbed view.

With the same belief i made a project this summer vacation in which i tried to introduce tabbed view in Microsoft Windows file explorer. Some of the Features of this File Explorer are
  • Tabbed View:- I enabled more than one instance of window to be opened within single instance of window.
  • File Searching:-It has an option for searching with starting name or ending name of files, you can even search file with date of creation, to make search more specific you can even search files on content .
  • Preview Contents:-Till now we had seen only image previews or may be vedios but how about having an option to view the contents of the file before even opening it, i have also embedded that into this small application of mine.
  • Tree Structure:- It has the usual tree type exploring option which windows offer.
This was a small project which have implemented on Java platform using Swings. I would love to see in future these features to be embedded in Microsoft Windows. You can see some of the screen shots of my work by clicking on images above......

iRiver DP250

iRiver has introduced its first digital audio player in its Siren brand, which was announced earlier this year. The player is called the DP250-a potential competitor to the Sony NWZ-B100 MP3 Player.

Some of the Features with a difference in this device are:-
  • It will be available in a 1GB and 2GB storage capacity
  • It includes an FM tuner and a transmitter to broadcast your audio to any FM receiver - a really handy feature.
  • The voice recording functionality appears to makes it a highly competent player.
  • The device is capable of 18 hours of continuous audio playback.
  • Featuring a 400mW mono built-in speaker, you can enjoy listening to songs that deliver high quality music.

Some changes which i would love to have in this player are

  • The device should be equipped with some what bigger display.
  • Some work is required on the size specification to make in look different.
  • There should be some modification in display panel, i believe companies must give away with this traditional looking panels. Think about having a display similar to what iPod or maybe iPhone are offering.
  • Another feature which could have made a difference is Wi-Fi support with the capability of downloading music from music stores.

iRiver DP250 DAP will carry a price tag of $85 (approx. Rs. 3,400) for a 1GB version and $120 (approx. Rs. 4,800) for 2GB.

Tribler :- Bandwidth as Digital Currency

A new Peer-to-Peer system called Tribler is into reckoning to overpower the existing unequal way of sharing. This system treats bandwidth as the digital currency which means the amount you are willing to spend, only that much amount of goods you can buy, rather you can say the amount of bandwidth you are willing to spend on uploading stuff or sharing, the same amount opportunity you will get to download in a Peer-to-Peer system. This is in a way an acknowledgment to selfless sharers and penalizing leechers who just like to download.

Currently this technology is being assessed by a European broadcasting body looking at ways of piping TV across the net. Which means your TV would be connected with internet and you can watch movies, listen to music and enjoy HDTV quality, but after you are done with watching your TV will start transmitting automatically for same amount of minutes as you watched.

Tribler is an open source Peer-to-Peer client, it's using the Python programming language it is possible to run on any Python supported platform. Some of the features of Tribler are

=>Tribler allows to group people with similar taste and tag them as friends.
=> You can import existing groups from programs like MSN and Gmail.

You can download this file sharing software called Tribler from

Future Hard disk with Direct Plug and Play

Few days back i purchased a new external hard disk for storing my collection of movies and songs, when i was storing data a question popped up in my mind can i directly connect my hard disk to my TV????????? The answer which Google gave me was a big "NO".

Over the past few years we have seen the size of storage device increase exponentially from floppy disk of 5MB of storage to DVDs and Blue ray disks of capacity of 8GB to 30GB.I believe its time now that old fashioned electronic gadgets such as TVs start to take a more intelligent shape, imagine storing hundreds of movies, songs and pics in an hard disk and just with single click able to select the movie of your choice with no headache of changing the cd or dvd again and again........

Its time now TV manufacturer start to think differently provide customers support for hard drive then this would be a new evolution of technology .
